Investment in Disability Services to Empower Australians
Empowering Australians with Disabilities through Strategic Investments
The Australian Ministry for Families and Social Services, along with the Ministry for Social Services, Housing, and Disability Services, have unveiled a new grant round as part of the NDIS Information, Linkages, and Capacity Building (ILC) initiative.
These grants are targeted investments for organizations that are working tirelessly to empower people with disabilities. Their mission is to facilitate these individuals to actively participate in their communities and fulfil their ambitions. In the fiscal year of 2018-19, these grants will be channelled into organizations that are established by and serve people with disabilities.
Over the past two years, the Federal Government has infused $82.7 million into this cause. An additional injection of $19.9 million is now set to fortify the organizational capacity of Disabled Peoples and Families Organizations (DPFOs) across Australia.
Sarah Henderson, the Assistant Minister for Social Services, Housing, and Disability Services, acknowledges that this targeted investment in DPFOs is a significant stride towards opening up more opportunities for people with disabilities.
The following activities are expected to receive funding through this targeted grant round:
- Establishment and support of peer groups
- Implementation of mentoring programs, both at individual and group levels
- Development of skill-building programs aimed at promoting self-management and independence
- Launch of capacity-building programs to enable people to voice their concerns and rights
The application period for the DPFO grant round commences on 27 November 2018 and concludes on 21 December 2018.
